The race for mobile operators to gain spectrum is competitive. Each carrier wants to bolster its network to add speed, reliability and expansive coverage. And as device technology is on the increase, and the number of people with LTE-capable devices is growing, network technology needs to match the demand. And it could lead the FCC to start looking at alternatives to the … [read full article]
Just a short while ago, Ericsson confirmed that it is involved in helping T-Mobile with its various LTE networks. Today, yet another European company has announced that it is – also – involved in helping T-Mobile with carrier aggregation. Nokia’s … [read full article]
T-Mobile’s been on something of a mass spectrum hunt in recent weeks and months. Yet another FCC filing reveals plans to acquire more A-block airwaves from Triad 700MHz in Reno, Nevada and Anchorage, Alaska. If completed, it would see T-Mobile add another 2.43 million POPs to its potential A-block coverage. When you add the 2.43 million to the 13.45 million POPs we’ve already … [read full article]
T-Mobile has done incredibly well to get its LTE network from 0 to “nationwide” within the space of 18 months. Even more impressive perhaps is that it’s upgrading networks to being some of the fastest connections around thanks to technologies like wideband LTE and 4×2 MiMo. But still, for those living on the outskirts, or in smaller cities with no LTE, none of that really matters. And so we like to hear when T-Mo’s 4G network starts … [read full article]
Some interesting tidbits of information to share with you this morning. I’ve collected a couple of really interesting updates regarding T-Mobile’s network expansion and improvement. First off, is a really handy map which shows the markets where T-Mo already owns 700MHz spectrum, and the areas in which it has agreed to buy. Tip of the hat to one of our readers, Edward for pointing it out to me. . 700MHz Spectrum Map The pink areas show where … [read full article]
Since it announced late last year that it would be launching a much faster wideband LTE network, T-Mobile’s been mostly focussing on the large, major metro areas. But now that a lot of those are covered, it’s seemingly activating its 15+15/20+20 network in some smaller towns and cities too. Not long ago [read full article]
Although T-Mobile’s executives have made it clear they don’t place any value RootMetrics’ network performance reports, it’s encouraging that the more recent results are finally catching up with what we already knew about the company’s LTE: It’s fast. In RootMetrics’ most recent Midyear Mobile Network Performance Report, compiling data from across … [read full article]
Every once in a while we get sent news of new networks being tested and activated in various locations across the U.S. Often times, I dig through them and round them all up in a single post. But, since I’m on vacation (sort of), I’ll just post this week’s as and when I’m able too. A T-Mo customer and TmoNews reader has been testing … [read full article]
The subject of wideband LTE has cropped up a number of times this year, as T-Mobile seeks to build a “Data Strong” network capable of providing super-fast speeds to all its customers (within the right area). It comes in two flavors: 15+15 and 20+20. To use the old, basic highway traffic analogy: One’s like have 15 lanes each side of … [read full article]
