Moto G, simply the best phone under $200 [Review]

I don’t think any company’s released a more talked-about handset under $200 than Motorola with its Moto G. And for good reason. It’s the first time anyone’s really brought a great experience, and decent spec-list to a phone in that price range. I got one just over a week back and have grown to like it a lot, although it does have its problems. Design The Moto G’s design should be applauded. It feels fantastic in hand. … [read full article]

Verizon and T-Mobile close to spectrum deal according to Bloomberg

Today was supposed to be another quiet Friday for me, but I guess the powers that control leaks decided to spoil those plans. We’ve already seen reports claiming that Sprint is looking to buy T-Mobile, and now it’s rumored that Verizon and T-Mobile are close to a deal. Over the past few weeks, rumors of a VZW/Tmo deal have been gathering pace. We’ve known Verizon is keen on selling … [read full article]

WSJ: Sprint looking to buy T-Mobile US

I have to be honest, I’m not entirely sure what to make of this story, but I’m certain it’s going to create a lot of conversation and debate. According to the Wall Street Journal’s sources, Sprint is looking in to the possibility of buying out T-Mobile. This would obviously create one larger carrier capable of competing with Verizon and AT&T. Whether or not a purchase would go through is another matter entirely. AT&T tried – … [read full article]

“Un-leash with T-Mobile” ad promotes $0 down on Galaxy devices plus a sly dig at AT&T

Along with its $0 down holiday promotion on Samsung and Apple devices, T-Mobile has produced a new ad. Dubbed “Un-leash with T-Mobile” the ad focusses on the $0 down on all Galaxy devices promotion, but covers all the essential USPs (unique selling points) of Tmo. Not only are the devices at a great price, they’re for sale without any “restrictive annual service contracts, no upgrade run-around and best of all, no AT&T.” The ad is colorful, energetic … [read full article]

Unlocking your phone will now be possible thanks to official deal between U.S. carriers and FCC

In the past few hours, the FCC and CTIA finally agreed a deal to allow consumers from the five major U.S. networks to unlock their devices. It’s been one of the big sticking points of the carrier/smartphone industry for sometime and is yet another step in the right direction of giving control back to the consumers and not the carrier. This is just weeks after the FCC [read full article]

T-Mobile chief, Jim Alling looks back on 2013 – “What a difference a year makes”

With 2013 drawing to a close, it’s hard to look at the overall US network scene and not think, “this was T-Mobile’s year.” Going from a place a couple of years back where it was almost sold to AT&T and now, where AT&T is copying almost everything Tmo does (presumably because it’s threatened), has been a massive turnaround. Jim Alling, T-Mobile’s COO spoke at an investor conference in New York today and commented on the stark contrast … [read full article]

RootMetrics results show huge T-Mobile speed jump, but still behind Verizon/AT&T in Dallas, TX

Dallas, Texas has been something of a popular talking point among T-Mobile watchers over the past couple of months. It’s one of the first places in the States to show signs of the faster 20+20 LTE network lighting up. RootMetrics has published its most recent results from the area, and it’s generally good news. Since the test in March earlier this year, T-Mobile’s … [read full article]

Android 4.3 finally arriving for Galaxy Note 2 users

A little later than expected, but I guess late is always better than never. Android 4.3 has finally arrived for the Galaxy Note 2, a week or so later than was planned. A handful of readers have emailed/tweeted us to inform us that new software is available to download now. It should be available as an OTA update, but if it’s not showing up automatically, head on over to the settings menu and check manually. Let us … [read full article]
