T-Mobile announced at the start of 2018 that it planned to move to 100 percent renewable energy by 2021, and today T-Mo gave us an update on that initiative.

T-Mobile says that thanks to a couple of recent moves, it’s now reached 95 percent of its commitment to use 100 percent renewable energy by 2021. First up, T-Mo wind farm partner ENGIE US Wind has turned on its Solomon Forks Wind Project, adding 650,000MWh of energy to the grid every year.

Also announced today is that T-Mobile has struck five new deals on green contracts — four solar farms and another wind farm — that’ll be added to T-Mo’s clean energy provider portfolio when they go online by 2021. They include a wind farm in Otter Creek, IL; a solar farm in Foxhound, VA; a solar farm in Greenville, VA; a solar farm in Myrtle, VA; and a solar farm in Rockhound, TX.

With those five new agreements, T-Mobile is participating in a total of eight clean energy projects across the U.S.

“In 2018 we made a big industry-leading commitment to power ALL of T-Mobile — from cell towers to customer care centers to retail stores to headquarters — with renewable energy. Why? Simple. We know our operations have an impact on the environment and we want to do what we can to reduce that. Efforts like the ones we announced today just prove we continue to be ALL IN!” said T-Mobile CEO John Legere. “And by the way, I still challenge the other guys to do better and join us in our commitment to 100% green energy. We ALL need to do our part! So, who else is WITH US?”
