T-Mobile has updated a handful of Samsung devices to support RCS Universal Profile 1.0 messaging, including the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 models. Now it appears that T-Mo will be turning its focus to Samsung’s recent Galaxy Note phones.

A T-Mobile support document lists both the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Note 8 as phones that support RCS Universal Profile 1.0 messaging. We haven’t seen updates roll out to these Note phones with RCS Universal Profile 1.0 support quite yet, but when asked about their inclusion on this list, T-Mo told me that “the Note 8 and Note 9 already support UP 1.0”. It’s possible that these updates will begin rolling out soon, so we’ll have to keep an eye out for them.

RCS Universal Profile 1.0 improves upon standard text messaging in several ways. It’s got typing status indicators, read receipts, support for sending files up to 100MB in size, support for group chats up to 100 people, and more. What’s more, these features work across carriers, so long as you’re chatting with a person that also has RCS Universal Profile 1.0 and the carrier interconnects with T-Mo.

T-Mobile likely hasn’t been as fast with rolling RCS Universal Profile 1.0 support out to its phones as some people would like, but it is good news to see that two more devices are gaining the feature. That’s especially true considering that they’re two high-profile devices like the Galaxy Note 9 and Note 8. Here’s to hoping that we see RCS Universal Profile 1.0 make its way to more T-Mobile phones soon.
