Along with news that the popular 2 for $100 and 4 for $100 plans are ending soon, we’ve been informed that T-Mobile has a couple more interesting changes on the way. We’ve been shown the company’s plans for the rest of June, and there were two more little tidbits of information I felt would be good to share with you.
TrioSIM
First off, from June 15 (this coming Monday), T-Mobile retail locations will begin receiving TrioSIM packs. As you’d expect from the name, the SIM is made up of all three standard SIM card sizes: Mini, Micro and Nano. The aim – of course – is to make it easier for customers to switch devices without having to get a brand new, different sized SIM card as well.
T-Mobile in Europe – in the Netherlands, for example – already uses these TrioSIMs, as do a couple of carriers in the UK.
The idea is that if, for instance, you change from a modern iPhone to a device like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or LG G4, that you can just insert the Nano SIM back in to the Micro SIM-sized adapter, and carry on using your same SIM card. It saves you hassle, and presumably will save T-Mobile some cash. And I don’t mean just the cost of the SIM card replacements, but the time spent by store and care staff dealing with SIM card replacements. It’s also great for serial phone-swappers like me too!
Seven day unlimited talk and text pass
As well as these new, super-useful SIM cards, T-Mobile is also going to launch a brand new short-term prepaid plan (or add-on). From June 28th, T-Mobile is going to roll out a 7-day, unlimited talk and text pass for prepaid customers. It costs $10 for one week’s use and is being pitched as a “great option for tourists and customers looking for unlimited usage for a short window of time.”
The One Week pass – when it launches – will need to be added to the Pay as you Go Plan for customers looking to take advantage:
Both changes seem like positives on the surface. As a phone reviewer, the TrioSIM is the one that excites me most. It would mean that I can use my main SIM card in any phone I want without having to worry about whether it takes a Nano or Micro SIM. Stay tuned for more on this, and let us know what you think.
