After what seems like months of silence – and the fear of abandonment – the Z3 has moved one step closer to getting its long-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Only this morning, we checked the software updates page on T-Mobile’s support site and didn’t see any change in the Z3’s progress. But just a few hours later, one of our readers checked again and saw that it is now officially in “T-Mobile Testing” which normally means that public release is only a few weeks away.
It wasn’t that long ago that the Xperia Z3 oddly and quietly vanished from T-Mobile’s online store after being discontinued, before reappearing again recently with a discounted price. It was surprising that – after just a handful of months – a flagship phone would disappear. Especially one as good as the Sony.
The folks over at Xperia Blog have been keeping an eye on potential update builds, and if their information is good, the Xperia Z3’s update should be Android 5.0.2 and it will support bands 2, 4 and 12.
Let’s hope it doesn’t take to long to end testing, because I can’t help but feel T-Mobile’s Xperia Z3 users are now more than a little frustrated at the seeming lack of development.
