MetroPCS legacy network switch-off in Philadelphia scheduled for September 30

Ever since T-Mobile merged with MetroPCS last year, the two have been working together to replace the purple carrier’s old legacy network with a more modern LTE network. What that means is that in certain locations over the past 12 months, the old network has been switched off, freeing up some much needed spectrum for T-Mobile to use elsewhere. More recently, Las Vegas had its old network turned off.

Next on the list of markets to be switched away from the legacy network is Philadelphia. On September 30, Metro will switch off the old network and start using the newer LTE network.

MetroPCS customers in the area are being reminded to switch to a compatible phone before the end of September to ensure they can remain connected to their carrier’s service. In many cases, as we’ve seen previously, consumers are being offered a free upgrade to make the switch as pain -free as possible.

If you’re a customer and want to see if you’re phone is eligible for a free upgrade, you can check on the MetroPCS site. If it is eligible, you can take it to your local store and receive an instant upgrade credit that you can use on the same day towards a new phone or accessories. If you don’t have a phone compatible with the new LTE service, you might notice your phone stop working at the end of September.
