T-Mobile Selects RootMetrics App As New Tool For Comparing Signal Strength Against The Competition
T-Mobile’s continuing relationship with the good folks over at RootMetrics continues with the announcement that T-Mobile and RootMetrics will partner for comparing signal strength. In a blog post that went live yesterday, RM announced that T-Mobile has selected the company to serve “as the primary engine for comparing their signal strength to those of other carriers across the US.”
T-Mobile will ask its customer base to give feedback on the service, regardless of how good or bad the service is compared to the competition. The kicker? T-Mobile has agreed not to count any tests conducted with CoverageMap app against your data allotment. I like the proactive attitude here T-Mobile is adopting, it’s something every carrier should consider on a widespread basis. Coverage is and has always been at the forefront of industry troubles, hopefully the opportunity for T-Mobile to gather user feedback on a major scale will provide the company with the knowledge to plug holes and fill in coverage gaps. Good for everyone.
So, T-Mobile customers, if you want to show how good your service is or highlight problems that you think others should know about, then start testing. In fact, showing where service is poor is one of the best aspects of using our app. It’s frustrating to find poor service and feel that nothing will change because your experience is lost or not heard. Our app gives you a voice to let the carriers hear both the good and bad. Your results are combined with those of everyone else who uses the app to create a true picture of performance. As we say, “a single person whispers but a crowd shouts.” The carriers are listening and can use your crowd-sourced results to improve network performance.
Press Release:
T-Mobile chooses RootMetrics CoverageMap app for carrier comparisons
Mar 6, 2013 / Dave Andersen
We’ve told you before that the reason we created our free CoverageMap app is so that you can see for yourself how the carriers really perform. We believe that real-world test results say more about a carrier’s actual performance than any marketing claim. And, we’re not the only ones who see the value of independent, 3rd-party test results generated by and—more importantly—for consumers.
In an industry-first, T-Mobile has chosen to use test results from our CoverageMap app as the primary engine for comparing their signal strength to those of the other carriers across the United States. T-Mobile is asking consumers to give them feedback on their service, regardless of how it stacks up to that of the other carriers. In fact, if you’re a US-based T-Mobile customer, T-Mobile has agreed to not count tests conducted with our CoverageMap app against your data plan.

T-Mobile is the first carrier to not count your tests against your data plan, but the benefits of testing aren’t just for T-Mobile subscribers. If you’re not a T-Mobile customer and want to compare your carrier’s performance with T-Mobile’s, go right ahead: you too can use our CoverageMap app to test your performance and add your results to our map.
With your help, we’re changing the way mobile performance is measured and evaluated, by providing new levels of transparency that are valuable to subscribers of any mobile network. Test often and spread the word: the more tests, the better the picture of mobile performance.
The carriers are listening, so make your voice heard. May the best carrier win.
