T-Mobile G-Slate Android 3.1 Update Introduces Locked Bootloader?
T-Mobile’s G-Slate Android 3.1 Honeycomb update is rolling out now and brings a host of goodies with the introduction of Google Videos, Homescreen resizable widgets and USB accessory support just to name a few. Unfortunately all the news isn’t good as there is one additional “improvement” delivered in the form of a locked bootloader. The move doesn’t seem to be accidental and it may just be the way LG is moving forward, locking down the bootloader. This is a stark contrast to HTC’s recent moves which have garnered huge amounts of support from the Android rooting community by announcing unlocked bootloaders.
The previously mod-friendly T-Mobile G-Slate will now a lot of hoops to work around if hackers and developers want to hack, tweak and improve the device. Consider this fair warning that unless you really need one of the improvements Android 3.1 brings forth, you might want to consider waiting on this update.
