T-Mobile Announces Sidekick 4G Details, Along With HSPA+ 21
T-Mobile, in combination with Samsung Mobile are officially unveiling to the world, the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G by Samsung. The newest Android smartphone in the T-Mobile lineup pays homage to the Sidekick of old while delivering Android power on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network complete with theoretical download speeds of up to 21 Mbps.
Complete with a 3.5″ touchscreen marking the first entry into the Sidekick lineup that features a touch sensitive display. The “pop-tilt” hinge reveals the famous five row keyboard that has long been a staple in the Sidekick line. We could even go as far to say it is single most important reason the Sidekick line rose to prominence during its heyday.
Delivering two brand new features in Sidekick “Group Text” and “Cloud Text,” the Sidekick 4G hopes to “redefine” messaging. Sidekick’s “Group Text” feature will let customers create, name, manage and participate in reply-all group text conversations. “Cloud Text” provides an option to text friends/family across platforms, be it from the comfort of your home PC or from your brand new Sidekick 4G.
The Sidekick 4G will come preloaded with both Facebook and Twitter applications along with integrated Google services including Gmail, Google Talk, Google Maps. As an Android device, the Sidekick 4G will take advantage of the thousands of Apps available via the Android Market.
The “Jump” key, an “easy access physical button” enables customers to multitask quickly by switching active applications. The Sidekick 4G is now an entertainment powerhouse powered by T-Mobile HSPA+, the Sidekick’s Media Room features YouTube videos, T-Mobile TV, Slacker radio and Samsung Media Hub with shows from CBS, Fox, MTV, NBC, Paramount and Warner Bros. Furthermore, T-Mobile customers rocking the Samsung Media Hub on their Sidekick 4G will be able to bill Media Hub charges directly to their monthly T-Mobile bills.
The Sidekick 4G hardware comes complete with a 1 GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor. A VGA front-facing camera will power your T-Mobile Video Chat conversations by Qik. Android 2.2 will be your Android version of choice.
The Sidekick 4G will also be the first T-Mobile device to come equipped with DriveSmart, the first of a it’s kind service that helps prevent distracted driving. When enabled, DriveSmart will allow the user to send automatic messages to incoming callers and arriving text messages that let’s them know you’ll contact the person when it’s safe to do so. Pretty nifty and hopefully this will come enabled on all future T-Mobile devices.
