T-Mobile is set to become the first national carrier to introduce an international calling and text package just in time for the holiday season! Starting December 8th and available to most postpaid plans $49.99 or higher T-Mobile will allow calling to 56 countries most popular long distance calling destinations. For just $10 you can call any international landline in these 56 countries and text to any mobile number worldwide. Just to be safe and reiterate, this package is for calls to LANDLINES only, no mobile-to-mobile included in this package. If you already have an existing text plan on your existing line, that’ll be $25 a month for this package altogether. Calls out of this plan don’t incur any extra costs of course as is this point of this package, but they do come out of your package minutes so any overage charges would be incurred as is the norm.
Family plans and this new international package are going to work a little differently as this package is for individual lines only with no current “family” plan available. Instead of trying to explain it I’m just posting the images we’ve received which will hopefully make more sense than any explanation I could offer.
Some other worthy notes:
New Customers:
New customers who want International Talk & Text must select a plan with unlimited messaging built into the plan or choose the International Talk & Text + Unlimited US Messaging feature. The International Talk & Text + Unlimited US Messaging feature includes unlimited domestic messaging so a separate messaging feature should not be selected (systems will not allow this).
Existing Customers:
Existing customers who have a plan with unlimited messaging already built into the plan can add the $10 International Talk & Text feature. Otherwise, they’ll need to add the International Talk & Text + Unlimited US Messaging feature. Since the International Talk & Text + Unlimited US Messaging feature includes unlimited domestic messaging, it is not compatible with any other messaging feature. Any existing messaging feature must be removed by adding the International Talk & Text + Unlimited US Messaging feature.
At first glance, this looks like a pretty nice offer from T-Mobile further cementing themselves as a low cost leader among the big four national carriers. Obviously time will tell to determine if a package like this meets with success as international calling is a big expense these days and we welcome this package in order to try and eliminate costs.
