While the G1 has been snacking on Cupcake, or Android 1.5, for quite some time now, it seems as though it will be too full to eat any more desserts. While the first Android phone graced us with its presence, its hardware is lacking and is forcing it to be left out to get stale. Dave Sparks, an Android software engineer, has said that devs “won’t be able to fit the latest [Android] release on the G1’s internal flash” soon. Blame HTC for baking the G1 with a lack of internal storage, and an inability to support app storage / loading from a microSD card (well, unless you root it, of course). Long story short, G1 users may not be able to taste Donut, Eclair, Flan or whatever other dessert that Google has baking in the oven.
UPDATE: Memory limitations aside, T-Mobile has said that they “plan to continue working with Google to introduce future software updates to the T-Mobile G1. Reports to the contrary are inaccurate.” Now, lets just hope these are tasty updates and not run of the mill security updates.
