Sliding Into Scarlet

TNews on April 20th, 2008 | File Under Sidekick Slide -

Slide Picture

It looks like T-mobile is trying to push the Sidekick Slide one more time before excitment starts building over the new Sidekick…oops, did we say that? The original color name reported by BoyGeniusReports was a fierce-sounding “fire red.” It seems that this must have been a bit too intimidating for customers, as seen in this document, fire red has been replaced by scarlet. For those that want to drop your purple slides, and grab a new scarlet one, stop by your local T-mobile store on May 15th.

Upcoming Sale & T429 going PrePaid

TNews on April 20th, 2008 | File Under Samsung T429, T-Mobile To Go, T-mobile Promotions -

If you were thinking about switching to T-mobile, you might want to wait until April 25th. From April 25th to April 28th, all activation fees will be waived. Well, not exactly, but the $35 per line will be credited to your first bill. Spending $35 may seem trivial, but if you are activating 5 lines, the price jumps up to $175.

After this promotion ends, on April 30th, T-mobile will be launching a new PrePaid Pay As You Go service. Accompanying this launch will be the T429….which has, drum roll please, a VGA camera. I asked for a phone with a VGA camera back in 2002, thanks T-mobile, just what we always wanted. Get this, it’s a slider too, T-mobile just loves them sliders. PhoneScoop loved this phone so much, they wrote a whopping two sentences about it. Along with the amazing quality of a VGA camera, this phone has a speakerphone and hold onto your seats, GPRS data! We’re expecting pricing to be somewhere around $50-70 dollars when switched over to Pay As You Go.

Update: Just received news that the $18 upgrade fee will also be credited to your account between the 25th and 28th. Just in time to get the Scarlet Sidekick Slide!

3G coming to New York, Miami, and LA first.

TNews on April 20th, 2008 | File Under T-mobile 3G -

After months of apprehensive waiting, T-mobile customers finally saw a spark of real 3G info last week when a list of the first 25 cities to be covered by 3G surfaced. Now, T-mobile and 3G are coming together a little more. The internal site that T-mobile employees have access to has announced an upcoming sale of UMTS handsets in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. Although this isn’t an announcement of 3G, we think a UMTS handset sale can only mean one thing…unless T-mobile scrapped 3G altogether and is trying to get rid of their UMTS handsets! Just Kidding, sit back down, we don’t want any riots. We don’t have a date of launch for you yet, but keep your ears open over the next week, we should have some significant info to bring you.

Am I Dreaming?

TNews on April 20th, 2008 | File Under Android, HTC Dream -

Andoird + T-mobile

First and foremost, TMoNews has not fully confirmed this. Our lack of commitment and confirmation on this subject may also stemming from our disbelief that T-mobile plans on being leading the wireless industry, an event rarely seen. Other carriers which will remain unnamed seem to follow the business strategy of ‘lead and hope,’ while T-mobile has always seemed to ‘follow and do it right the first time.’ The tables have turned it seems. Coming Q4 of 2008, T-mobile will lead the wireless industry by releasing the HTC Dream, the first Android handset ever. We should have more information for you shortly. Here is what we know now:

  • 3 inches long, 5 inches wide
  • Will feature a full touch screen, with a swivel screen which reveals a full QWERTY keyboard.
  • Unlike the Iphone, the Dream will not only be touch sensitive, but touch-time sensitive.
  • The phone should be a full media phone, have easy access to YouTube, and let users view and edit documents.

Quick Recap. Confirmed:

  • An Android Handset will be released by T-mobile in Q4 of 2008

Unconfirmed

  • The first Android Handset released will be the HTC Dream
